AMD Catalyst 15.7: Windows 10 and other news

Windows 10 is fast approaching and AMD has just released a new graphics driver with the Catalyst 15.7. On the menu of this new version of the Radeon drivers several new functions, performance gains, and support of Windows 10. 

With Catalyst 15.7, AMD provides a unified driver for its Radeon graphics cards that supports finally the recent Radeon R9 300 and the Radeon R9 Fury X and versions of the Fury series come in addition to existing Radeon graphics cards. 

This driver enables control of frame rate on older generation Radeon including the Radeon R9 200 and Radeon HD 7800/7900 while we find the VSR Mode or Virtual Super Resolution which consists in rendering of a game in a resolution higher than that of the screen for more details. This mode is available both new Fury and Radeon R9 300 with the Radeon R9 200 and Radeon HD 7800/7900. 

These new drivers are used to activate the FreeSync technology on Crossfire configurations with DirectX 10 games or better. The brand reported a few simple GPU performance gains with Windows 7 including 8.1% for Far Cry 4 and Radeon R7 or R9 200 series (and higher). With the same cards, AMD reported a 10% gain in performance on Tomb Raider. The Crossfire users benefit from several improvements to recent games like The Witcher 3, Dying Light Project CARS GTA V or via profiles updated. 

As for Windows 10 support, AMD says it has a DirectX 12-compatible WDDM 2.0 driver for its cards Graphic Core Next architecture (Radeon HD 7000 and later) but this driver is still considered a preview. The former founder of Sunnyvale indeed indicates that it will be on July 29 and the official launch of Windows 10 for an official driver fully supported.
